When the Doctor Becomes the Patient

When doctors say for instance, “It’s normal to have that pain for a few more weeks,” I used to assume those words were reassuring. But lying in a hospital bed after surgery, hearing something similar, I realised how differently those words sound when you’re the one in pain. E
